In the near term, STRATCOM Commander Adm. Charles Richard said that missile warning is his top priority, and expressed concern over China's FOBS test.
“It's all about providing the president options against a broad series of contingencies. And in this respect, I am in favor of continuing to assess and evaluate the SLCM-N," the Pentagon's No. 2 general said.
STRATCOM head Gen. Chas Richard said he's "very concerned" about "opportunistic aggression" with regards to China and Russia. He also noted the government has whiffed on its plutonium pit production goal.
“The breathtaking growth and strategic nuclear capability enables China to change their posture and their strategy," Adm. Charles Richard said.
"If you try to life-extend a weapon system that was built before the invention of the Internet, and then turn around and ask me why it's not cyber-secure -- I don't know how," Adm. Charles Richard told SASC today.
The nuclear command control system for nuclear weapons is safe and was not compromised by the massive SolarWinds hack by Russia, the head of Strategic Command says.
"When testing is complete, and IBCS can link all of our missile different systems together, that's going to be an enormous step forward," said Adm. Chas Richard.
"To this point, we have no impact to our ability to accomplish our mission," Adm. Richard stressed.
